Fifth Avenue socialite Irene Bullock (Carole Lombard, one of the best to do the "dizzy dame" persona) needs a “forgotten man” to win a scavenger hunt, and to her luck finds handsome Godfrey Parke (William Powell) residing in a dump by the East River. Deciding to make Godfrey her protégé, Irene subsequently hires Godfrey as a butler for her chaotic and unhinged household, to the chagrin of her sister, Cornelia (Gail Patrick), who tries her best to get Godfrey fired. As Irene begins to fall for him, and the family's behaviour becomes increasingly giddy, Godfrey turns the tables and teaches the frivolous Bullocks a lesson or two.

A classic screwball comedy from director Gregory La Cava, who worked in animated film during the silents and entered the sound era with a slew of big studio pictures in the 1930s. My Man Godfrey has hints of that riotous, lively animation style while bringing together a cast of some of the biggest stars of the time, and was nominated for six Oscars at the 9th Academy Awards. A glamourous Golden Age Hollywood classic not to be missed as it glistens onto the big screen.
